About Jimmy
James “Jimmy” Blake is the VP of Global Cyber Resiliency Strategy for Cohesity, a company focused on helping organisations deliver operational resilience, whether the threat is human error, a natural disaster, or cyber threat actors, and helping them securely use AI to gain insights into their data wherever it resides.
James has been a leading figure in the cyber security industry’s understanding of data management solutions' role in building resilience to destructive cyber attacks across detection, response and recovery, presenting at dozens of conferences, publishing white papers and conducting media interviews.
In his role, James works with the CISOs and CIOs of the World’s largest enterprises and governments, helping them withstand and recover from ransomware incidents and develop and execute transformation plans towards a posture of resilience.
He also acts as a Subject Matter Expert on Cyber Resilience for Cohesity’s Product Management and Marketing teams, ensuring that operational best practices and outcomes are always the organisation's guiding light.
He is an Advisory Board Member for South West of England Technology Cluster, where he helps support, connect and showcase the tech sector across the South West, including Cornwall and the isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Bristol, and Gloucestershire.
Prior to joining Cohesity, James was the first Field CISO at Rubrik and was the Advisory Chief Information Security Officer for ServiceNow. With ServiceNow’s over 71% market share in global enterprises, defence and government, Jimmy engaged with CISOs across the globe to provide guidance on cyber security risk and operational transformation. Helping both set multi-year, multi-million dollar strategies as well as providing pragmatic subject matter expertise on how to execute and manage the transformation on a week-by-week basis.
Before ServiceNow, Jimmy acted as the Global Consulting Strategist for Micro Focus Cyber Defense Consulting (now part of OpenText). His role encompasses the creation and oversight of innovative consulting engagements Worldwide to assist defence, enterprise and government customers in solving problems related to big data management and analytics; secure software development; and efficient and effective Cyber detection and response activities encompassing deception techniques, machine learning and manual analytics; hunt teams and traditional correlation. Jimmy has built or consulted on the capability of cyber operations for dozens of organisations globally in the government and private sector.
Prior to Micro Focus, James was the Head of Global Cyber Security Operations Integration for JPMorgan Chase. His role involved designing, implementing and maturing end-to-end cyber security capabilities, including event detection through correlation, analytics and hunt; incident triage and intrusion analysis; integration and analysis of strategic, tactical and operational threat intelligence; and incident and breach response.
Before JPMorgan Chase, James was the Practice Manager for the HP Enterprise Security Intelligence & Operations Consulting (SIOC), the World’s leading consultancy practice in the field of building and maturing of intrusion analysis, security analytics, threat intelligence, breach response and incident response capabilities for enterprise, government and military customers across the globe. Since its inception in 2007, HP Security Intelligence & Operations Consulting has built over 91 Security Operations Centres from the ground up and provided consultancy services for over 200 others. James managed the practice, successfully delivering complex multi-year capability builds from the ground up or transformation engagements.
James was the Chief Information Security Officer for Mimecast, who was at the time Europe’s largest Software-as-a-Service vendor and placed in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 four years running, in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 for two consecutive years and a cover story in SC Magazine. During explosive growth, James oversaw the security of over a million subscriber’s data across 11 data centres and 7 corporate offices on 4 continents.
Before Mimecast, James had gained over 15 years of operational experience as a contractor focusing on information assurance in defence infrastructure and as a CIO for a pharmaceutical services company.
In 2009, James was one of the co-founders of the Security B-Sides London information security conference, the United Kingdom’s second-largest information security conference held annually. He acted as the inaugural regional chair of the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) South West region UKCERT Cyber information Sharing Partnership (CiSP). James also acts as a board advisor on cybersecurity for a number of commercial entities and non-profit organisations.
James makes regular radio, TV and podcast appearances covering topics related to information security and has presented at conferences across the globe, from Alaska to Australia.
