Eck, its that time again - house move.  After decades of a techno nomad lifestyle of moving to where the contracts are, it has become time to move along again.

Although we’re only moving three miles West, the sheer logistics of moving this much computing and dive equipment amazes me.

It is hard to believe when you consider the impact that the iPhone has had in its short life, but this revolutionary computing platform is only just one year old on the 29 June.

We are now only a couple of weeks away from Worldwide launch of the iPhone’s elder sibling, the iPhone 3G that promises to add higher speed browsing, third-party applications and enterprise groupware features.  Existing iPhone users will also be able to download the iPhone 2.0 operating system enabling the same third-party applications and enterprise groupware features as the iPhone 3G.

On top of this, Apple have announced that iPhone users will now be able to use the UK’s largest wifi hotspot network, BT OpenZone, free-of-charge in addition to the existing agreement with The Cloud.  This will add around 9,000 hotspots to those already provided by The Cloud.

Crave UK has a good photo album celebrating the iPhone’s first year.

At the time of writing, most of HSBC’s Web real estate were still vulnerable despite being notified months ago.

Sproutcore, the open source project to provide rich applications based on Javascript and Ruby, has been getting a lot of attention thanks to an Apple World Wide Developer’s Conference session.

Sproutcore forms the basis of a large part of Apple’s recently announced, and visually stunning, MobileMe service.

I’ve been playing around with it for a couple of hours and I recommend this guide is an excellent starting point for Mac OS users.

According to this AppleInsider posting O2 may open its doors at 7 AM on the 11 July launch day

This certainly would beat the fact I had to fly to the US to get may original iPhone on launch day last year.

I’ve just read this excellent article on the Glomar Explorer, a ship built by the US in the height of the Cold War to recover Soviet submarines for intelligence purposes.

I saw this on Gianpaolo Carraro’s blog and had to laugh - a nephologist studies clouds.

It seems like every company is now moving at least aspects of their business into the cloud and those of us with nephological experience are in demand.

One of the most iconic pictures of the tech age, the 11 original Microsoft employees taken on 7 December 1978 on the eve of the company’s move from Albuquerque, New Mexico where Microsoft had been founded to be close to Altair, the manufacturer of one of the first home computer, for whom Microsoft supplied a copy of the BASIC computer language.

Now, nearly thirty years later the 11 members of the photo have reconvened to take another shot for Bill Gates, who is due to step-down from his current role at the company he co-founded.
